What is titanium?
Titanium is a lightweight, corrosion-resistant metal used mainly as titanium sponge and as titanium dioxide (TiO2) pigment. In industry references, titanium is usually treated as a metal-and-pigment system rather than a single end-use stream.

How titanium is priced
There are no listed futures contracts for titanium metal (sponge or ingot) on any regulated exchange. Pricing is OTC against benchmark spot quotes published by
Fastmarkets,
Argus and S&P Global. The underlying mineral sands (ilmenite, rutile) and TiO
2 pigment also trade OTC under bilateral contracts referenced to benchmark indices.
Where titanium comes from
USGS MCS 2026 titanium sponge production is concentrated in China, Japan, Russia, Kazakhstan, Saudi Arabia, and India; the table shows China as the clear leader at 260,000 metric tons in 2025, followed by Japan at 53,000 and Russia at 25,000. The USGS page also notes revisions to 2024 production for Kazakhstan and Russia and reports a world total of 370,000 metric tons in 2025.

Who produces titanium
The leading sponge producers shown by USGS MCS 2026 are China, Japan, Russia, Kazakhstan, and Saudi Arabia, with China the dominant producer and the United States producing none in 2025 after its last sponge plant closed in 2024. For titanium dioxide pigment, the USGS lists major operating capacity in China, the United States, Germany, Australia, Mexico, Canada, and others, indicating a globally dispersed pigment industry.

What titanium is used for
USGS MCS 2026 says the majority of titanium metal is used in aerospace, with the remainder used in armor, chemical processing, marine hardware, medical implants, power generation, and other applications. For titanium dioxide pigment, the USGS says the leading uses are paints, plastics, and paper, in that order.

Key facts about titanium supply
- USGS MCS 2026: the United States did not produce titanium sponge metal in 2025, and the last domestic sponge plant closed in 2024. USGS MCS 2026 titanium and titanium dioxide
- USGS MCS 2026: world sponge production was 370,000 metric tons in 2025, down from a 2024 world total of about 380,000 metric tons. USGS MCS 2026 titanium and titanium dioxide
- USGS MCS 2026: China produced 260,000 metric tons of titanium sponge in 2025, far ahead of Japan at 53,000 and Russia at 25,000. USGS MCS 2026 titanium and titanium dioxide
- USGS MCS 2026: U.S. sponge imports in 2021-24 came mainly from Japan at 77%, Saudi Arabia at 13%, Kazakhstan at 8%, and other sources at 2%. USGS MCS 2026 titanium and titanium dioxide
- USGS MCS 2026: TiO2 pigment capacity in China was 6,000,000 metric tons in 2025e, the largest listed in the table. USGS MCS 2026 titanium and titanium dioxide

Companies ranked by most recently disclosed annual titanium production (kilotonnes). Each card links to the primary source (annual report, production report, or exchange filing). "Not disclosed" means the company does not publish metal-specific tonnage — common for private Chinese/state-owned groups and pre-production projects.

(Allegheny Technologies Inc.) (United States), Osaka Titanium Technologies Co., Ltd. (OTC) (Japan) — and are listed with an “Undisclosed Output” badge instead of a rank, in line with our principle of never inventing numbers absent from primary sources. Full ranking with primary-source links is available in the
producers section.
Where can I find official titanium price data?
Official titanium prices are published by Spot. TSM Hub aggregates these feeds under licensed market-data redistributor agreements and updates them twice daily.
What is the primary source for titanium production and reserves data?
Country-level titanium production and reserves figures on TSM Hub are sourced directly from the
USGS Mineral Commodity Summaries 2026, the U.S. Geological Survey's authoritative annual reference. Company-level production figures come from each producer's official annual report, production report, or regulated exchange filing.
